Where is the Value in Scholarly Communications?
After a long hot Summer between predatory journals, the announcement of cOAlition S and many discussions about OA versus traditional publishing, we are pleased to announce the next APE Conference on 15-16 January 2019 in Berlin.

Our considerations
Publishers cannot take their role for granted. New platforms are emerging that may replace old workflows, lifting them away from publishers large and small. As well as funders, technology companies and governments starting to control parts of the scholarly communication network, large commercial players are also now operating parts of the pipeline.
We need to explore this rapidly expanding ecosphere and examine how we might encourage and nurture change that helps build on the fundamental stewardship and integrity of the scholarly record…
The fundamental question is: what are the values in scholarly communications? There are many other open questions and nobody really can predict how the world of scholarly communication and scientific publishing will look like in the years to come. So there is a lot to talk about and we need to share experiences. See you in Berlin!
The APE Conferences aim at a better understanding of scholarly communication and the role of information in science, education and society. They encourage the debate about the future of value-added scientific publishing, information dissemination and access to scientific results and offer an independent forum for ‘open minds’. Participants have enjoyed this very open atmosphere in the Academy of Sciences and Humanities since the beginnings in 2006. APE Conferences are ‘must-go’ conferences.
